No matter which area you look at, at some point you will come across extremes of the extra class. Limits are tested and their location defined. Because we humans always push it to the extreme limit. So are also in the tattoo industry so some of these extremes, which I will present to you herewith.
The oldest tattoo in the world
Ötzi, the Iceman, was found in the Ötztal Alps in 1991, and with him the oldest tattoo in the world. This consists of 61 individual, different patterns, such as lines and crosses, and is over 5300 years old. If you thought the biggest tattoo in the world only covers one body, I'm sorry to disappoint you. Because the tattoo artist Marc, also called Little Swastika, brought in 2014 a single motif spread over more than ten backs under the skin. Within 33 hours, the tattoo, which was stung with three helpers, was completed.
The most expensive tattoo in the world
The probably most expensive tattoo worldwide is worn by model Kate Moss on her bum. She herself estimates the value at about one million US dollars, because it was engraved by the famous, but now deceased artist Lucian Michael Freud. The latter was a direct descendant of the famous psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. The tattoo is estimated at such a high value, because the paintings of the artist are regularly bought at auctions for millions. The tattoo is a one-of-a-kind, as well as the last remaining tattoo of the artist. It shows two swallows, which are generally considered popular motifs nowadays.
The most tattoos in one day
The American Hollis Cantrell from Phoenix currently holds the record for the most tattoos in one day. He completed a staggering 801 tattoos in his studio Artistic Tattoo with the help of a team of many volunteers. According to the guidelines of Guinness World Records, the same motif always had to be engraved. After 24 hours of work on the needle, he broke the previous record in 2008.
The longest tattoo session in the world
What you could do in 50 hours and 10 minutes can only be imagined. Dave Fleet tattooed the then 27-year-old James Llewellyn's back and legs for two days straight in Cardiff Bay, Wales, at the end of October 2011. He was only allowed to pause for five minutes per hour. After setting the record and tiring hours on the machine, scenes from the Bible and Milton's Paradise Lost appeared on James' back.
Most tattoos at the same time
In 2010, a new record was set at the tattoo convention "Tattoo Jam" in Doncaster. The 300 tattoo artists present at the British convention were encouraged to bring their work under the skin at the same time. Counted were actually 223 tattoo artists who tattooed at the same time and thus set the new record.
The most engraved name on a body
January 2017 Mark Evans achieved this title, who had a name tattooed a full 267 times on his back. He did this on the occasion of the birth of his daughter "Lucy" and at the same time to raise funds for the hospital, which helped his daughter with health problems.
Countries & cities with the most tattoo studios
Tattoo records are not limited to people in their extremes, but also include countries and cities. For countries, there is no official data, but New Zealand and England both claim the title. The city with the highest density of tattoo studios is, for once, clearly Miami Beach. On 100,00 inhabitants come here no less than 24 tattoo studios.
